velkommen lefse

Making lefse (a Norwegian flatbread) this winter was an all day process but so worth it when you can have a piece right off the griddle with butter and brown sugar. What I hadn't noticed before is that all my family members roll and fold and fill their lefse differently. So here's to more self-expression through potato bread.

wee and woe

On the night before school starts again, a nostalgic scene from a leisurely and chilly vacation.

fortune ate

It was my baking goal to make fortune cookies this past holiday season. The fortunes were fun to make, but what a delicate and awkward dance around the kitchen to get these just right. I could only bake two at a time because they begin to harden immediately out of the oven, so there was a mad dash to the counter, flipping them off the cookie sheet, then folding and draping to make the shape. The best part of it all: seeing my family smile when they cracked them open.
